Man breaks into pound to recover seized dog

A Waramanga man has been charged with burglary after he took back his dog from the pound at Symonston at the weekend.

On Sunday police were alerted to an overnight burglary and a missing dog from the ACT government’s  Domestic Animal Services facility.

They allege that at about 11pm on Saturday, power tools were used to access a cage where a seven-month-old dog was housed. No other dogs were taken during this incident.

Following review of facility records and CCTV, a 34-year-old man was identified and police and Domestic Animal Services officers located the missing dog at the man’s Waramanga home. The dog had previously been seized from the man for non-compliance with ownership requirements.
